Heather Renée Russ
Heather Renée Russ (she/they) works across experimental photography, installation and bio art. She incorporates femme signifiers and organic materials to explore queer geographies, displacement and climate grief, while centering queer joy. Russ comes from a rich history of organizing in underground art scenes. She co-directed Lair Fera, a queer collaborative space in Bushwick. In San Francisco she co-produced Club Feral, a raucous mutual aid queer nightclub. The experience of stewarding spaces for queer artists in ever-shifting environments informs her work.
Russ has an upcoming solo at Elijah Wheat Showroom in Beacon. She presented the solo exhibitions Riis Beach: In Reverberation at NARS Foundation in 2026 and Tidewrack at SUNY Old Westbury in 2025. She has exhibited with Field Projects, SPRING/BREAK Art Show, Wassaic Project, Stephen Street Gallery, Underdonk, Flux Factory, Every Woman Biennial, NADA Miami with Paradice Palase, Kleefeld Contemporary Art Museum (Cal State Long Beach), IMT Gallery (London), and SoMos (Berlin). Russ completed residencies at Wassaic Project, NARS Foundation, MASS MoCA, ChaNorth, TransBorder Art and Vermont Studio Center and received the Powerhouse Arts Subsidy Award in 2026.

20 Empty Tree Beds - 24 Participating Artists
Ridgewood's sidewalks contain more than 800 empty street tree beds, roughly one for every 90 residents. For one weekend, twenty of these overlooked spaces will be transformed into temporary, site-specific artworks by 23 participating artists.
Visitors are invited to explore the neighborhood on foot, discovering how contemporary art can temporarily transform familiar streets while reflecting on public space, urban ecology, and the hidden potential of the city's overlooked landscape.
