Hedwig Brouckaert (Belgian-American, living in NYC) transforms the destructive remnants of consumer culture - mass media imagery, and waste expanded polystyrene that she collects from NYC’s waterways - into introspective and tactile works ranging from drawings to site-specific installations. She exhibited her work internationally, including at the Bronx Museum, Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens (BE), Bangkok Art and Culture Center (TH), VOLTA NY, and Pallazo Vendramin Costa (IT). Brouckaert has been awarded fellowships including AIM Bronx Museum, LMCC Governors Island Art Center, NYFA Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program, Rockefeller Foundation – Bellagio (IT), Liguria Study Center Bogliasco (IT), Cité Internationale des Arts Paris, Hafnarborg Museum of Iceland, Yaddo (NY), and grants from FST Studio Projects Fund, Cafe Royal Cultural Foundation, and the Flemish Government in Belgium. She received an MFA from the University of California, Davis, after completing a Masters in sculpture at the Sint-Lukas Hogeschool and a Postgraduate at the Higher Institute for Fine Arts in Belgium.
